DESCRIPTION - The Dalmatian dog breed is easily recognized for its striking black-dotted coat design. Even so, the origin of this coat pattern still remains unknown. The name, however, comes from Dalmatia, and that's a region situated in Yugoslavia. This breed was acknowledged by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1888, and since then has remained a popular breed.

DALMATIAN TEMPERAMENT – The Dalmatian offers great enthusiasm and always full of energy for a long distance run. It is necessary to have patience to train this breed to behave in the home, and ideally a secure open space to offer obedience training. The Dalmatian breed can be a little hostile towards some other creatures; this is typically the case with a strange dog, although no such problems seem to be encountered with other household pets, such as a cat.

Dalmatian dogs can make an adorable pet, although it can at times be stubborn once it comes to training. For a family with small children, this breed of dog might seem a little too energetic and intense. Even so, with the ideal exercise and adequate training routine, a Dalmatian can become a great family pet.

CARE – To keep up with the energetic nature of this breed, it is more suitable to an owner with an active lifestyle. A Dalmatian isn't going to be that content with just a few short daily walks. Being able to roam outside or go on a long run is more suited. The Dalmatian's make the ideal partner for a jogger.

This breed needs to be able to live in the luxury of a family home but also to have the ability to roam outside as necessary. The Dalmatian isn't a breed that's able to tolerate hot temperatures so if outside sufficient shade needs to be to hand. A top priority to owning a Dalmatian is companionship, so don't leave unattended for longer than necessary.

HEALTH INFORMATION – A common health related issued with the Dalmatians is deafness. More minor issues include seizures, iris sphincter dysplasia, allergies, and hypothyroidism. Occasional instances of CHD have been detected, although this is rare.

Vets suggest that this breed of dog is tested for the following issues – potential hearing loss, thyroid, hip dysplasia, and eye problems. The Dalmatian life span is 12 - 15 years.
