It helps to keep a dog’s ears dry, free of moisture as well as stopping a build up of wax as parasites prefer those conditions.
It's essential to appreciate that cleaning techniques are often dependent on different dog breeds. Not all breeds are created the same. Some breeds are in need of an ear clean on a daily basis, while other breeds can get away with a clean once every one or two weeks.
In general a dog breed with a long coat or large ear flaps calls for more grooming attention in view of the limited air circulation. Also, some breeds often have too much hair inside the ear. If that's a noticeable problem it's often best to clip away some of the excess hair.
Dog grooming tips for general all-around pet care:
#1. As noted previously, moisture inside a dog’s ear is often attractive to fungus and parasites. If that's left to mix with dirt or a build up of ear wax, it can result in health problems if matters are left to fester. Stopping this is a case of water not getting inside a dogs ear. At bath times, placing a thick wad of cotton inside each ear should help to stop the build up of water.
#2. In times of grooming a dog, give extra attention to a dog’s outer earflaps. Using an ear solution often helps to avoid an infection. Soak a soft cotton ball or cloth in the solution, and rub the earflaps gently until clean. Although, avoid cleaning too deep inside an ear as that can be detrimental to a dogs wellbeing.
