Dog training doesn't need to take an enormous amount of time, nor does it need to be complicated to instruct you pet on the basics.
One of the basic commands is that of 'come'. There are a variety of dog training lessons to teach this procedure, but is one of the easiest ways.
Here are some tips to follow to have your dog respond to the 'come here' command. The technique is based on luring the dog, and than to reward with a treat. It can help if the dog is a bit peckish before the training starts. So, have some dog treats handy to act as a training aid.
• Start by standing in front of the dog holding a treat, so that is it's easily seen. Extend your arm so that it is slightly in front of you.
• In a fun and sweet tone of voice (just enough to realize that you're happy), say 'Chester, Come!'
• Hopefully you dog should now run towards you, especially if the dog treat has been noticed. Most dogs will come running at the first indication of food, but a puppy might need a little more encouragement.
• If a dog isn't responding – squat down and stretch the arm with the dog treat slightly more, once more give the command 'Chester, Come!'
• Once the dog arrives at the treat, aim to entice the dog into a sitting position – do this by stroking the neck and upper back region, while moving the treat slowly to the dog's mouth with the free hand. Now praise in a friendly voice to establish a positive feeling.
In time, it should be possible to drop the rewards, and to repeat these dog training lessons by giving praise instead of treats.
