These tips highlight some of the useful items to carry on a road trip that includes the family pet.

• A dog den or crate with blanket inside for the dog's comfort and safety. Or, if preferred a seatbelt harness for staying on a seat.

• Sufficient dog food, snacks, or treats on board. Be certain that enough food is carried to last the duration of journey.
