DESCRIPTION - In the 19th century the Bulldog was an extremely popular breed in England, most notably in the Nottingham area – at the time a small breed that weighed in at less than 25 to 30 lbs. The Bulldogs where taken to France when a number of lace workers travelled across the channel seeking work in the region and took their dogs with them.

The Bulldogs were soon adored by the French, typically those with the erect ears. A common feature to this breed, although not looked on so favourably back in England. In time, many more of these dogs were taken to France, and refer to as Bouledogue Francais by dog dealers.

As the popularity grew, the Bulldog began to catch the attention of the wealthy families, and soon seen in some of the most prestigious properties in France. It was at this stage of the Bulldogs popularity that several were taken back to the United States by travellers and started breeding there.

Soon an American club was established for the French Bulldog breed and in 1898 they were able to sponsor one of most elegant and popular breed specific dog shows to be appear at that time. This in turn helped to skyrocket the popularity of the breed in America. By 1913 the French Bull dog was rated as the most admired show dog.

FRENCH BULLDOG TEMPERAMENT – a fun-loving lapdog that enjoys being the centre of attention and playtime. The French Bulldog is willing to please, sweet, and can make the ideal companion for anybody.

CAREexercise for French Bulldogs can easily be met with a short walk on a lead or a romp throughout the house. This is one dog breed that ought to be living inside at all times. Wheezing, snoring, and drooling are commonly seen with this breed.

GROOMING – a minimal task with this breed, an occasion brush on a weekly basis is often sufficient – although the facial wrinkle will need to be cleaned on a daily basis.

HEALTH INFORMATION – the health issues of a major nature seen in this breed include Allergies, Brachycephalic, Intervertebral Disk Disease, and CHD. Also seen are Patellar Luxation and Hemivertebra.
