History Of The Glen of Imaal Terrier:

Ireland isn't only renowned for its fabled leprechauns and lush vistas, it is also the origins of the Glen of Imaal Terrier breed. The Glen functioned as a work dog in various tasks in the rough terrain of the Glen regions, which was full of rocks and harsh landscape.

The Glen of Imaal Terrier operated as focused hunter, chasing foxes, badgers, and rats. The dogs were also used for entertainment purposes at night as fight dogs and wagering bets made on the outcome. In addition to that, the Glen would be used to help turn wheals for making clothing and food.

Glen of Imaal Terrier was also to maintain a preserved bloodline and its natural traits remained in place. The Irish Kennel Club recognized this breed in 1934 and later in the 1980's also becoming popular in the U.S. The Glen was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 2001 as a part of the miscellaneous group, and later to move on the Terrier group in 2004.

This Terrier is in need of exercise on a daily basis as well as time for fun and games. A breed that will thrive on human companionship and able to enjoy all activities with its family.

The Glen is suited to most temperature conditions, with an ability to tolerate cooler weather, although not into the extreme of cold or high heat. A breed that shouldn't be left to live outside, while still being able to have plenty of time to run in a secure area. Grooming consists of a thorough brushing once or twice a week.
