The Labrador Retriever dog breed is the #1 most popular breed (since 1991) registered at the American Kennel Club (AKC). The Labrador is highly rated due to its friendliness to strangers and other pets, playfulness, affectionate, ease of training, and even its ability as a watchdog.
The Labrador Retriever breed was officially recognized by The Kennel Club in 1903, and the American Kennel Club in 1917.
Labrador Retriever Temperament:
A very obedient and amiable dog once trained. They are wonderful with children, due to their high tolerance level. The Labrador is eager to please and extremely loyal to their master.
Running, swimming, and retrieving are a few of the activities that this breed enjoys. Being able to learn new tricks is always enjoyed, and makes a wonderful obedience training student. Labrador retrievers dogs like to take part in Mental and physical challenges.
Care:
The chocolate Labrador retriever needs exercise on a daily basis in the form of a run or swim. Retrieving is a fun game for Labs, especially in areas of water, such as an outdoor pool or beach.
Living accommodation for the Labrador can be either inside with the family or outside in a secure kennel. Even so, this breed is most comfortable if inside with its family and in stable temperature conditions.
Health Information:
Health concerns of a major nature include Patellar Luxation, Obesity, Elbow Dysplasia, and CHD. On occasion Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia, Diabetes, Over-exercising (resulting in collapse), Muscular Dystrophy, and Distichiasis, are seen in the Labrador Retriever breed. The Labrador Retriever life span is on average 10 to 12 years.
