Description:
Rottweiler Dog Breed
The Rottweiler dog is an intimidating and physically imposing breed. Rated at the top of the charts for being a family protector, and watchdog. The history for this breed is believed to have originated in ancient Roman times - as a herding or drover dog.
Having become almost extinct in the 1880's due to having no functional use, the Rottweiler is now one of the most popular breeds as noted by the AKC. The Rottweiler was recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1931.
Rottweiler Temperament:
This canine is confident, alert, and extremely bold. In truth, Rottweiler dogs have the ideal characteristics for a watchdog. Even so, with a dog as aggressively confident and courageous – it can be stubborn at times of training. It is however worth the extra patience and time necessary to make this breed a household pet.
Care:
The Rottweiler is in need of daily physical activity. Obedience training and mental play should also form part of the day to day activities. Long walks and vigorous games can make the ideal exercise for a Rottweiler.
This breed has little ability to cope with the humid and hot temperatures of the summer - favouring the cooler weather conditions and the winter months. The Rottweiler will soon become overheated in the summer if ran too hard.
Rottweilers dogs are equally happy to live inside with its family or outside in a suitable kennel. With outdoor living, ensure that adequate shelter and shade is available at time of hot weather. Still, this breed does like to spend a lot of time with it owner.
Health Information:
The health concerns of a more major nature seen in the Rottweiler breed are CHD, Osteosarcoma, Elbow Dysplasia, and SAS. Vets also suggest that tests are done for the following conditions – VWD, Cardiac Problems, and Hip Dysplasia.
