History Of The Standard Schnauzer:
The origins of the Standard Schnauzer date back to the Middle Ages, with the region being Germany. In its early stages, these dogs acted as vermin control and guardians. Today's dogs are regarded as loving and protective family pets. The eldest of the Schnauzer dogs, namely the Standard, dates back to 14th century.
Standard Schnauzer's are a genetic mix of hunting stock, terriers, and working dogs. Studies indicate that a potential combination of breeds to create these dogs came from a Wire-Haired Pinscher, German poodles, and Gray Wolf Spitz. This cross-breeding resulted in a canine adapted to catching vermin and performing as a guard dog.
The first of the Standard Schnauzer's to appear in America happened in early 1900's, although these dogs weren't an instant hit with dog fanciers. Originally classified as a terrier, and later changed to a working dog. These dogs operated extensively throughout WWI as a police dog.
