History Of The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon: The origins of the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon started out in 1800's France. Having created the Cherville Griffon it was later cross-bred with the setter and the Pointer.
Further refining and developing of these dogs was credited to a gentleman called Edward Korthals, based in Holland. In truth, these dogs are known by the name 'Korthals Griffon' in various regions of the world.
Mr. Korthals started his work in refining these dogs in 1874. It's believed that at least 20 other dogs where used in the breeding program, including German pointer, griffons, water spaniels, setters, French pointers, spaniels, and setters.
It was later in 1887 that the initial breed standard was document for a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. In 1888, with these dogs known as Russian Setter's, England offered the first dogs to display for shows.
The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon dramatically grew in popularity up to WWII. Once the war finished, the breeds reputation again developed as a hunt companion, although numbers never recovered to what was seen prior to the war.
Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Care: These dogs are in need of ample outside time and required an owner that's able to offer an active lifestyle. In a similar way to all sporting breeds, its necessary to allow daily stimulation that can consist of jogging, running in the open, or playing with its family. Swimming is also a favored activity.
Wirehaired Pointing Griffon's can live outside in temperature that isn’t excessively cold or overly warm. It helps to allow these dogs to roam outside in a secure yard throughout the day, and return to its family’s home at nights. Grooming consists of a good brushing two or three times each week to maintain its harsh coat.
