DESCRIPTION - The adorable Yorkshire terrier, as a member of the toy group, is a mix of England's best terriers - being part of the English tan and black terrier, the Clydesdale terrier, paisley terrier, and the waterside terrier.

In the late 1800's, the Yorkies arrived in America but due to the variety in sizes, the Yorkshire terrier didn't receive its select name till the early 1900's. At this stage a majority of dog enthusiast declared that the Yorkie terrier with its smaller size as the preferable choice.

YORKSHIRE TERRIER TEMPERAMENT - The temperament demonstrated by this breed of dog is of a confident, bold, a courageous creature, and never deterred by its small stature. Eager for adventure and fun, this breed can at times by aggressive towards strange canines, and other small creature that they might come across.

CARE – Yorkshire terriers needs a lot of exercise, as to be expected with a toy dog breed. This physical activity can often be fulfilled by running from one room to the next in a small house or apartment. Although, this shouldn't mean that a Yorkie isn't taken outside. A brisk walk in a park will certainly be welcomed. Just be certain to keep the terrier on a lead to avoid a problem with other small creatures.

In respect of the ideal living arrangement, a Yorkie isn't meant to live outside. The companionship of its family is preferred. If a Yorkshire terrier dog must be left outside, be sure to allow for sufficient shelter and plenty of bedding.

The Yorkshire terrier breed is liable to grow long hair. Grooming Yorkshire Terrier needs will therefore be determined on whether you intend on keeping this style. A lot of Yorkie owners tend to keep their pet clipped as this limits the need of brushing to two or three time each week. Longer hair will demand more attention to avoid matting.

HEALTH INFORMATION – The Yorkshire terrier dogs aren't associated to any major health related concerns. Even so, patellar luxation is one of the minor concerns that will need to be looked out for. Vets do recommend that Yorkies are tested for knee dysplasia, eye problems, and given a liver ultrasound.
